The U. S. S. Niagara was used by the government as a
receiving ship at Erie until 1818 when she was abandoned
and sunk in Misery Bay. It was raised and restored in 1913
for the centennial celebration of Oliver Hazard Perry's vic-
tory on Lake Erie, which took place September 10th. It is
at the present time in the process of semi-repair, state appro-
priation of funds for this purpose having been exhausted,
and is anchored at Presque Isle State Park Peninsula.
