The Tombs Prison, the grey stone build-
ing at the left, is connected with the Su-
preme Court by a covered bridge known
as "The Bridge of Sighs", so called be-
cause of the sighs uttered by prisoners
when passing through after having been-PM 0
sentenced in the court house. The Tombs
Prison occupies the entire square block
from Center St. to Lafayette St. and from
Franklin St. to Leonard St.
