ZOO, HIGHLAND PARK,
PITTSBURGH, PA.
On June 15, 1898, Pittsburgh received her Zoological
gardens in Highland Park, through the generosity of
the late Cristopher L. Magee, one of the widely known
citizens of the city at that time. At a cost of $125,000,
buildings were erected on a plot of ground covering about
100 acres, and a few animals which have been in Schen-
ley Park, were removed to the new place. The main
building, containing lions, tigers, and some of the larger
animals, is 700 feet in length.
