The American poet and journalist, was born November 3rd, 1794, at Cummington, Massachusetts. He was for a time at Williams College but chiefly received his education at home. By profession he was a barrister. His beautiful poem "Thanatopsis" was published in the "North American Review" in 1817, immediately brought him fame. Among others of his poems are "The Rivulet," "The West Wind," "The Forest Hymn," "June," and "The Flood of Years." Besides other literary appointments he was at one time editor of the "New York Review". He died on Jun 12th, 1878 from the result of a fall |
