Henry Clay, the "Father of the National Pike" and one of the most noted statesmen of his time, was
a frequent and welcome visitor in Washington while traveling between his Kentucky home and the
National Capital. This shows Mr. Clay arriving at the famous Globe Inn on May 16, 1844.
