established as a Health Resort by Act of the
Assembly of Virginia in October 1776. Long
before this, and ever since that date, it has
been recognized by leading medical authori-
ties as a place for health. On U. S. Route
522, County Seat, Morgan County, W. Va. Town
surveyed by George Washington in 1748, who
along with General Gates and many other
officers in the Revolutionary Army purchased
lots here, in 1777.
