THE VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTI-
TUTE, founded in 1839, has won and richly
deserves the title of "The West Point of the
South.” The valiant and courageous part
played by the students of this institution in
the War Between the States will go down in
history as one of the highlights of this War.
General Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson was
a professor here at the outbreak of the Civil
War and is buried at Lexington, Va. A
monument in his honor stands on the campus
in front of the main barracks of V.M.I.
