The Bank of England is a square, one-storied building, which covers three acres of ground in the very heart of the City. It was erected in 1788 after designs by Sir J. Soane. The architecture is Corinthian, from the Temple of the Sybil at Tivoli, of which temple the south-west angle is a facsimile.
