THE LOBBY OF THE NEWS BUILDING,
located at 220 East 42nd Street New York,
N. Y., where the MERCHANTS & BANKERS'
BUSINESS and SECRETARIAL SCHOOL OC-
eupies the third floor, is a source of interest and
wonder to thousands of visitors daily. It cost
approximately $200,000. On the floor is a
gigantic compass, showing 58 principal cities
and their relative distances from New York.
In the sunken well, illuminated from beneath,
a huge globe of the world—12 feet in diam-
eterweighing 2 tons-revolves slowly on an
axis. Seventeen panels, containing weather
meteorological instruments and charts, encircle
the walls.
