Pierce Arrow
"Silver Arrow"
The G. N. Pierce Company of Buffalo first made bicycles and birdcages, intro-
ducing the single-cylinder "Motorette" in 1902. A series of large, pretentious
"Arrow" models followed and in 1904 a "Great Arrow" won the Glidden Tour.
Pierce Arrow pioneered many innovations-a steering column gearshift, roof-
bulge for ladies large hats, and its headlamps-in-the-fender became a 1913
trademark. Collapsing sales ended production in 1938. This twelve-cylinder, 139-
inch wheelbase "Silver Arrow" cost $10,000.
