The University of Alaska-Fairbanks is one of three major campuses in the
statewide system of higher education. The 2,250-acre campus, sited on a
ridge overlooking the City of Fairbanks and the Tanana River Valley serves
nearly 8,000 students and is the only full-service campus. It is also the seat
of the statewide system administration. The university provides year-round
educational, cultural and recreational opportunities. The University of
Alaska Museum boasts a large collection of catalogued specimens of
natural and cultural history materials from Alaska and the North. The
University of Alaska-Fairbanks is also the home of internationally recog-
nized research institutes. Pictured is the West Ridge of campus where most
of the research institutes are located.
