NEAR VAN BUREN, MISSOURI
BIG SPRING STATE PARK, consisting of 5,836-acres, is located in Carter
County, 4 miles south of Van Buren on State Highway 103. The outstand-
ing feature of the park is the large volume of clear, cool water gushing
from the base of a high limestone bluff. It is considered the largest single
outlet spring in the United States with a maximum flow of 846,000,000
gallons daily. The facilities in the park are numerous for picnicking, tent
and trailer camping, swimming, nature trails, naturalist, boating, public
boat launching ramp, fishing, bridle trails and horses, modern cabins, store
and dining lodge. This park is bordered on the east by the clear, swift-
flowing waters of the famous Current River. The new Pea Vine Area is
now open with enlarged camping and picnicking facilities.
