THE GATEWAY CITY ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - The Gateway Arch,
symbolizing the opening of the West, is the central feature of the
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, above the historic Mis-
sissippi Levee. Our tallest National Monument, the arch is in the
shape of an inverted catenary curve, 630 feet high, designed by
the late Eero Saarinen. The Admiral excursion steamer is shown
in midstream.
