U.S.S. CONSTITUTION ("OLD IRONSIDES")
Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts
Nicknamed when cannonballs bounced off her oak
planking, Old Ironsides fought pirates in the West Indies
in 1798, bombarded "The shores of Tripoli" in 1803
and won important naval victories in the War of 1812.
Now a living museum of naval history, U.S.S.
Constitution is on permanent duty where she was built
by patriots like Paul Revere (who furnished the copper
and brass work) in 1797.
