Stands immediately in front of the State
House, corner of Beacon and Park Streets. Is
a monument to the late Col. Shaw, commander
of the First Massachusetts Regiment of colored
men. He fought in the Civil War and died on
the battlefield. It is the work of St. Gaudens.
