SALEM COLLEGE AT WINSTON-SALEM. One
of the oldest girls' colleges in the United States;
founded in 1771. This institution during its long
period of existence has never closed its doors except
for the usual vacation periods. Students from all
sections of the country and from some
some foreign
countries as well matriculate at this institution.
Some of the country's famous women have been
enrolled as students. When the Moravians settled
in Salem, they first built a place of worship, then
a school, the forerunner of this modern plant, and
then their dwellings.
