The original Battle House served as General Andrew Jackson's headquarters before the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. The New Battle House was erected several years ago at a cost in excess of a million dollars. It is South Alabama's leading hotel. Its spacious lobby is decorated with impressive murals depicting the history of Mobile under the five flags which have flown over the city since its founding by Bienville in 1699
