The River Front is eight miles long. The city wharf fronts on the Ohio River, where are the ferry landings and three handsome steel railway bridges, - two to Jeffersonville (Indiana) and one to New Albany. The latter is that of the "Big Four" Railway, and is the loftiest pier bridge ever built, being 375 feet above low water; it is of the cantilever variety, and cost about $2,000,000. |
