"Excelsior." a sculpture by Raoul Josset, welcomes the
sightseer to the New York State Building at the World's Fair
of 1940 in New York. The title of the work is the motto of the
Empire State. M. Josset chose an athlete in the act of putting
the shot (the arc describes the motion of the sphere) as
exemplifying "the dynamic energy as well as the essence of
the plastic beauty'' of the State.
