CONSTRUCTION OF A PIER
Mackinac Straits Bridge
Shown from left to right is the barge “Creole" with
load of dolomite stone; cofferdam; Prepakt floating
cement plant barge; and the barge "Algonquin'
which transfers dry cement and fly ash to the
cement plant. The cement mix is then pumped
through hoses into the cofferdam. All construction
units and barges are connected by radio phone to
headquarters at both St. Ignace and Mackinaw City,
Michigan.
