The City of Brush, in northeastern Colorado on In-
terstate 76, was platted in 1882 and incorporated in
1884, and is now the largest livestock market in the
state. Originally a cattle shipping point and before
that a favorite meeting place of the Pawnee Indians,
the townsite was named for pioneer freighter and cat-
tleman Jared L. Brush who was elected to two terms
as Colorado Lieutenant Governor in 1894 and 1896.
The city's 1980 population was 4,074. Brush is the site
annually of the "World's Largest Amateur Rodeo"
July 2, 3, 4.
