SYKES AVENUE ON LITTLE ROUND TOP. This picturesque Avenue
winds about and over Little Round Top, which during the battle was
inaccessable for horses and vehicles, the heavy guns being taken to its
summit by hand. The large tree was shot and shattered by Confederate
artillery, and stands to-day, a silent, mained survivor of the great struggle
that took place here, nearly half a century ago.
