THE SUNSHINE SKYWAY, St. Petersburg, Florida,
showing the 864-foot cantilever span of the central
bridge, which is 22,323 feet in length. The Skyway is 15
miles overall, connecting the city of St. Petersburg with
lower Gulf Coast cities across Tampa Bay, and replaces
the Bee Line Ferry's slow and inadequate service with a
fast tollway open 24 hours a day. Providing the last
missing link in the Dixie Highway and U.S. 19 through
St. Petersburg to Bradenton and Sarasota, the Skyway
is a new west coast attraction and facility.
