ELEPHANT'S HEAD AND GATE TO CRAW
FORD NOTCH. Just beyond the site of the old
Crawford House towering 100 feet above the
carriage road, is a huge boulder, shaped not
unlike the head of an elephant, the trunk of
which reaches to the roadway. A few rods
to the right the railroad emerges through a
great cut in the mountainside.
