PETOSKEY." So named for the thriving com-
munity located on the shore of Little Traverse
Bay, about 38 miles South of Mackinaw City:
population 6,000 . . . The Ferry was placed
in service May 25, 1941 ... The name JUNI
Petoskey comes from the Chippewa name
"Pe-To-Se-Ga," which in the Indian tongue $ JUPM
means"The Rising Sun."
