This bridge was formerly used as the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge over the Susquehanna River. In 1910, it was taken over by private interests and made into a highway bridge and toll was charged. In 1923 it was purchased by the State of Maryland, and in 1927 was made a toll free bridge.
