A memorial granite structure, pyramidal in form, 45
feet square at base and 90 feet high. It was dedicated
May 31st. 1869. This ivy-clad pile marks the last
resting place of the 12,000 Confederate soldiers buried
around it, and was erected in commemoration of their heroic
virtue, and unfaltering devotion to the "Lost Cause."
