SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MONUMENT-SEASIDE PARK.
At the close of the Civil War the ladies of the Soldiers'
Monument Association raised about $ 10,000. to which the
city added $ 18,000, for the purpose of perpetuating the
memories of the war heroes of Bridgeport. The corner stone
was laid August 29th, 1866, and the monument was dedicated
1st, 1876. The names of those who lost their lives-
about 150-are inscribed on it.
