THE SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MONUMENT, located in
the Public Square, is one of the finest military memorialsrin
the country. The corner stone was laid April 10, 1891, the
monument being unveiled Juli 4. 1894. It is 125 feet high
and cost $ 280,000, which was raised by public taxation on
all property in Cuyahoga County. It is substantially built
of Ohio Sandstone.
