No object in Salt Lake City excites greater interest in the minds of strangers than the "Mormon" Temple. The East Center tower is 210 ft. high, surmounted by a hammered copper statue 12 1/2 ft. high. Heavily gilded with pure gold leaf. This statue represents the Angel Moroni blowing a trumpet, proclaiming the restoration of Gospel. The inscription reads as follows: "Holiness to the Lord! the House of the Lord, built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Commenced April 6, 1853; completed April 6, 1893."
