Additional Details:
Wolfeboro's claim to being the "oldest summer resort in America" is well found. Way back in 1768, the last royal Administrator of New Hampshire, Governor Sir John Wentworth, Bart., built an extensive estate on the shore of the lake which now bears his name. This was the first summer home on this continent. and was, incidentally, the forerunner of the scores and scores of beautiful summer homes and camps which now make Wolfeboro such a famed summer community. The town was named, by the way, for "the late illustrious General Wolfe," and is the only town in the Worked which bears this particular name.
