Loring Air Force Base is an important part of the
Strategic Air Command's long-range strike force. Lo-
cated two miles from Limestone, Maine, and three
miles from the Canadian border, the 9,000-acre base
is home of the 42nd Bombardment Wing.
Limestone, Maine is a friendly community of nearly
3,000 people, and "home of the world's best potatoes,
biggest bombers and mightiest tankers." Incorporated
in 1869, the town is located in world famous Aroostook
County potato country.
