The progressive town of Farmville is located in south central
Virginia and is an educational center with Longwood Col-
lege (1884) and Hampden-Sydney College (1776). It is a five
county trading post, and agricultural and diversified indus-
tries provide a favorable economy. There is a modern hos-
pital, churches of all denominations, civic and community
clubs, and a municipal airport. It is the birthplace of General
