The Engineers of the United States army will see a lot of active service during the present way, and they are the most efficient body of Engineers in the world. This is one of the most important branches of the service, and frequently the most dangerous. The Engineers are often as much as a day's march ahead of the main body of troops, clearing roads, preparing camp sites land building bridges. A pontoon bridge similar to that shown here can be constructed in a few hours, and serves the need of the hour at well at the most elaborate bridge built at great expense of time and money.
