LAKE MURRAY'S SALUDA DAM AND
McMEEKIN GENERATING STATION
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S. C.
Huge 84 sq. mile Lake Murray is impounded by what
was the largest earthen dam in the world when built
in 1930. Highway across the nearly two mile long dam
affords the visitor a beautiful panorama of sky blue
water. McMeekin Station (center of picture) was rated
as the most efficient steam electric generating station
in the world in 1958. Saluda Hydro (capability 136,000
kw.) and McMeekin Station (capability 275,000 kw.) are
property of the S. C. Electric & Gas Co.
