One of the world's wonders, the Natural
Bridge, 215 feet high with a 90-foot reach, "is
a single block of limestone with many shades
of color." Wide enough to span Broadway
and high enough "to throw in shadow Niagara
Falls or the turrets of Trinity Church." It
stretches across a dark canyon that, as it
leaves the mighty buttresses of "the Bridge,
widens to receive the tapestry of vines, ferns
and evergreen that adorn its sides, while in
lace-like waterfalls or glinting pools Cedar
Creek gurgles along its depths, ever singing in
limpid notes a pæon to its greatness.
