GREETINGS FROM NEWTON, IOWA
Largest decorated man-made Christmas tree in lowa,
standing 160 feet high, uses the Jasper County Court-
house as a base. Thousands of colored lights, illum-
inated stars, neon signs, garlands and festooning to-
gether with cut pine trees create a spectacle that
diverts trans-continental airlines over Newton during
the Yule Season. Originated in 1934 and supple-
mented yearly with new innovations, the Chamber
of Commerce project now has equipment valued at
$13,000. Amplified, seasonal music completes the
mammoth project lighted from the day after Thanks-
giving until New Years.
