NATIONAL RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY
Green Bank, West Virginia
The 140 foot radio telescope at the National
Radio Astronomy Observatory was completed in
the spring of 1965. It is the largest equatorially
mounted radio telescope in the world.
Its antenna has a diameter of 140 feet, and is
200 feet above the ground - also, it is fully steer-
able in spite of its weighing over 2,500 tons.
This radio telescope collects, simplifies, and
measures radio waves from outer space enabling
astronomers to compile new information about
our universe.
