This building, as well as the water frontage,
are owned by the city. It is the main depot
of the city and is often called "The Water
Gate" of San Francisco on account of the large
number of ferry boats that leave its gates daily,
transporting back and forth across the bay a
large number of the toilers of this busy city,
who make their homes in the beautiful residence
districts to be found in Alameda, Berkeley, Oak-
land, and numerous other points adjacent to the
bay. It is also used by the city for museum
purposes.-S. F. 334.
