Manhattan Bridge approach from the Bowery, now under
construction. The plaza and arch are similar to the Porte St.
Denis in Paris, the colonnade similar in effect to that of
St. Peters in Rome. The surface cars will be back of the colon-
nade on the north side, while the elevated and subway trains
will approach the bridge on an elevated structure to the south.
