HESLOP'S COLLIERY ENGINE.
Winding and pumping engine erected about 1795 at Whitehaven by
Adam Heslop, under his patent of 1790, in which by employing two
cylinders he claimed advantages equivalent to those of a single acting
Watt engine. The engine was at work until 1878.
