The Tombs of the Mamelukes. A good road
leads from Cairo to the Tombs. They are in a more
ruinous state than the Tombs of the Caliphs, and are
perhaps less interesting. The most conspicuous is
the large dome of the Tomb of the Imam esh-Shafih,
who died A.D. 820. The walls of the interior have a
high dado of marble, and the tomb is covered with
gold-embroidered brocade.
