Engine "General" Standing in Union Depot This famous engine, which played such an important part in the civil War, occupies a prominent place in the Union Depot. The "General" was captured by 22 Federal soldiers in disguise, under the leadership of James J. Andrews, April 12, 1862, an attempt was made to escape with her, burn the railroad bridges and thus cut off the Confederate army's supplies, but the raid was unsuccessful and the engine was abandoned
