THE ADDRESS TO BE
HENRY WARD BEECHER MONUMENT. In front of and
facing Borough Hall is the famous bronze statue of Henry
Ward Beecher, by John Q. A. Ward. It commemorates him,
not only as a great preacher during forty years pastorate of
Plymouth Church (1847-1887), but also as a faithful and
fearless anti-slavery champion and philanthropist. The mem-
ment was erected in 1891.
