MEXICAN THATCHED HOUSE. The house of
the Mexican at San Antonio, sometimes called his "jacale",
is most interesting. These homes are built of all adaptable
and much unsuitable material; a few stick pickets driven into
the ground compose the walls; these are covered with stones,
boards, adobe, old tin, old oil cans, or the worn-out straw of
some primeval thatching.
