Cochrane Bridge across the headwaters of
Mobile Bay, erected at a cost of $2,500,000.00
crosses the mouth of 5 rivers emptying into
Mobile Bay. It is an important link in the
Old Spanish Trail-connecting Mobile, Ala.
with Pensacola, Florida. The center span is
one block long and lifts vertically, 135 long
above the water allowing the largest of
ocean-going vessels to pass. It is not a toll
bridge, but a free bridge.
