QUONSET POINT NAVAL AIR STATION
The U.S. Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, R. 1., was
placed in full commission July 12, 1941. There are
normally 11 squadrons located at the base, which is
also the home port of two aircraft carriers, the U.S.S.
Lake Champlain (CVS-39) and the U.S.S. Essex (CVS-9).
In addition, the Air Station provides logistic support
for a third carrier, the U.S.S. Wasp (CVS-18).
