THIS STONE WAS RECEIVED IN
WASHINGTON.D.C. IN 1865 AND RE-
MAINED THERE UNTIL 1870 WHEN IT
WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE POSSES-
SION OF THE NATIONAL LINCOLN
MONUMENT ASSOCIATION BY JOINT-
RESOLUTION OF THE CONGRESS.
TWENTY-FIVE CENTURIES AFTER
BEING FIRST PLACED BY THE
HANDS OF MAN IN THE ANCIENT
WALLS OF ROME THIS STONE WAS
DEDICATED AS A PART OF THE
LINCOLN TOMB OCTOBER 11, 1936.
