About 1859, the Cariboo Wagon road was constructed
and ran from Lillooet to the Cariboo goldfields at
Barkerville. As the wagon trains slowly trecked north-
ward, drawn by great mighty horse teams, night stops
became essential. These wagon stops were named by
Mile posts, 100 Mile, 108 Mile, 122 Mile, 150 Mile and
Mile 0 being Lillooet, all of which are well-known
historic sites today, especially notable the 83 Mile
House.
