The large double-square buildings are recruit barracks, capable of housing more than 1,000 persons. USNTC is 35 miles north of downtown Chicago and four miles from Wau- kegan. It is the oldest and largest facility of its kind in the U.S. Its essential role is recruit training of inductees, and the opera- tion of service schools for student Navy personnel. Photo by W.
